    • Charge battery. Scan for fault codes – ECM fault P0117 (coolant temperature sensor circuit 1 low output). While inspecting sensor connector found coolant leaking from thermostat housing as well. Recommend replacing thermostat housing, also comes with new sensor. Also noticed windows inop, T/S inop, and lights stay on. Scan all modules and found numerous faults across multiple modules. Recorded module scan and cleared faults. Concerns still present and some faults returned. There were faults against footwell control module (FRM), but FRM didn't show in module scan. Check fuses – ok. Remove left kickpanel to access FRM. Check powers and grounds to FRM – ok. FRM has internal failure and needs to be replaced. It functions like a body computer, this is causing the issues with lights and windows.
    • Replace footwell control module. Now able to communicate with scan tool. Lights and turn signals work properly, but power windows inop. Module fault code shows that it is in transport mode. Tried both scan tools and unable to get out of transport mode. Used CarDaq with laptop and purchased BMW subscription for programming. Part way thru programming module locked up and vehicle would no longer start. Remove and reinstall: glove box, dash trim, speedo bezel, and dash top to access CAS module. Sent ECU, CAS, and key to the mainland for testing and repair. After repair and acquiring a ICOM interface tool for programming we were eventually able to reprogram footwell module after many hours.
    • Raise on hoist. Drain coolant. Remove and reinstall: air cleaner housing, intake air ducts, heater hoses, and radiator hoses. Replace thermostat housing. Refill coolant and bleed system. Clear fault code and fan no longer stays on. Road test – ok.
